Year 2 begins with a fresh look, but the mission stays locked in: culture, development, and growth. After a strong Year 1, the U16 Fundamentals First Team returns with momentum, belief, and a clear standard. Last season, Fundamentals finished 1st in NPH and Coalition league play and brought home tournament hardware in the summer.

Year 2 brings a bigger challenge

The first season set the tone. Fundamentals proved it could compete, win league games, and handle tournament pressure. This season asks a different question. Can a new group build on that success while creating its own identity?

With some core players moving on, new opportunities open across the roster. Returning players now have more room to lead. Newer players have a chance to earn trust, minutes, and bigger roles.

Speaking with U16 Head Coach David Okoroafor, he relayed his excitement about working with a new group and although knows it will take time for things to come together he expects to see big jumps from players who have already been part of the program.

We caught up with Coach David about the outside noise and doubt on this team. "I know people are doubting this group and wanting to see us not do well. We have had a lot of early success in the program and with success comes hate. I'm looking forward to just helping the boys get better each practice and going out to compete this season, I love being the underdog, its fun!"

The key players to watch for

This roster has a clear chance to grow from within. The early watch list starts with the players who can set the tone:

  • Returning leaders

#24 Maysn Rumble and #5 Ekagger Dhanoa are two players who understand the standard from Year 1 and will be counted on to be leaders of the group.

Culture comes first

Fundamentals is not only chasing wins. The focus is on building habits that hold up for the program for years to come. On the floor, the expectations are to play hard, play as a team, and commit to the defensive side of the game.

Coach David wants players who want to put in the work and have a willingness to learn. Talent matters, but the standard matters more. If this group commits to the work, Year 2 can become another step forward for the program.
