U15 Fundamentals First Preview: Core Returns, New Talent, Big Leap Ahead
Updated: Oct 10
Fundamentals First made a major move last summer by adding a U14 age group. It was the first time the program had added another age group. It was a new team, with players arriving from different levels and learning how to play the game together.

Last season built the foundation
The start was slow, but the growth was clear. The team started off slow, finishing with a record of 2-8 at the Summer NPH Showcase League. Although the record didn't reflect it early on, the coaches were seeing the boys begin to understand the concepts and get better each game although the final results did not always reflect that.
The turning point came when Fundamentals First beat JR. EYBL UPLAY in Canada’s biggest tournament, the Jane & Finch Classic to advance to the finals. That win showed the team could match high-level competition when it played with confidence, discipline, and stuck to the principles.
The core is back
This season’s biggest strength is continuity. Fundamentals First brings back key pieces from last summer’s roster, including:
That returning core gives the team a strong base. They already know the pace, expectations, and pressure that come with playing at a high level.
The team has also added fresh talent that should help right away. With more depth and another season of experience, the U15 Fundamentals First Team points to a group ready to take a real step forward.
Head coach Romello Smith-Hibbert and David Okoroafor will lead the team this season. Their challenge will be turning promise into consistency.

The season ahead
Fundamentals First is expected to compete in Coalition and Phoenix Winter League. The schedule will test them, but that is exactly where this team belongs. After last summer’s growth, the goal is clear: prove this group is ready for the next level.
Stay Tuned, we will be covering this team all season long!
